Widespread Panic & Conscious Alliance Donates Over 900 Musical Instruments After ‘Tunes For Tots’ [Video]

Back on June 24, Widespread panic organized its 11th edition Music for toddlers benefit in Denver, CO Mission Ballroom. The collaboration with Conscious Covenant raised funds to provide underserved communities with musical instruments for schoolchildren. Last week, Widespread Panic and Conscious Alliance donated more than 900 musical instruments to schools in Pine Ridge Reservation, SD.

Home to more than 40,000 members of the Oglala Lakota Nation, the Pine Ridge Reservation received 910 diverse musical instruments including percussion cymbals, flutes, guitars and keyboards at its four high schools, Pine Ridge High School, Crazy Horse High School, Little Wound High School and Red Cloud High School. In addition to supporting schools, donations from Widespread Panic and Conscious Alliance benefit Lakota Flute Society and Rock the Ground youth music program.

“While earning their flutes, young people also learn to become powerful spokespersons for their generation as effective spiritual healers through music,” Will PetersLakota Flute Society instructor and teacher at Pine Ridge High School, said.

The June benefit concert raised more than $215,000 for music programs at the Pine Ridge Reservation, adding to the nearly $2,000,000 Widespread Panic has raised since Music for toddlers began in 2005. The show marked Panic’s first time on stage since pre-pandemic March 2, 2020 and kicked off the summer tour, just ahead of a three-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
